The health of our people is a reflection of the health of our nation. Disease prevention and promotion of good quality affordable healthcare are essential attributes of a welfare state. Unfortunately, corporatisation of healthcare and commercialisation of medical education have made this a distant pipedream.
The Believers Church Medical College (BCMC) was envisioned to teach and train young women and men in the art and science of healing and to send them out into the country to make a difference. We realise that ‘to walk the path of righteousness, what is important is not power and position, but rather, courage, conviction and commitment’. We know that the challenge is to work harder and smarter as we endeavour to ‘bring hope and healing with the love of Christ.’
Our Medical College will be a home away from home for our students as we welcome them into our hearts, our homes and our lives. A foster parenting system will form the core of our student-teacher relationship. Our faculty will endeavour to ‘walk the talk’and to be effective role models for our students. We will ensure that, as they gain knowledge and wisdom in the art and science of Medicine, they acquire excellent skills as well. We will provide them with the opportunity to innovate and seek newer ways to improve the health of our people.
Through our integrated teaching methods, we will introduce our students to clinical care even as they learn the basics of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. This method will help them understand early in their student life ‘why we do what we do’.
We will also help them get a first-hand experience of the health needs of our people through community outreach programmes, even as we empower them to strive for excellence in research. We will encourage them to reach out to the poor and the marginalised, while training to be excellent doctors. The mentoring in holistic care will focus on dealing with patients with compassion and empathy, doing for them what they would do for a close relative.
Our dream is to make Believers Church Medical College the best in the country, to enable our students to go out into the world as caring, committed doctors and to be change agents through the ‘Healing Ministry’ in our country.
