Dr. Sumith has completed his MBBS from Co-operative Medical College, Cochin (2009) and MD Pharmacology from the prestigious Christian Medical College, Vellore in the year 2014. He started his career as Assistant Professor at CMC, Vellore and has joined BCMCH as Professor in the Department of Pharmacology. His field of expertise includes Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Enzyme phenotyping, Research Methodology and Pharmacokinetic Modelling. He is also the recipient of numerous accolades namely, first prize for the poster presentation twice (Indian Pharmacological Society, Bangalore 2013 & 1st Global Forum on Bacterial Infections, New Delhi 2011) and first prize for oral presentation at 46th Annual Conference of Indian Pharmacological Society, 2013, Bangalore. He’s also the recipient of International Travel Grant Award for the 13th International Conference on Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. He has served as Young Scientist committee member of IATDMCT, Anti-infective Drugs committee member of IATDMCT and is currently Member of Health Product Screening Committee, ICMR since 2023. He is also Regional Coordinator for “TDM Education India”, a monthly webinar series, an initiative of IATDMCT and is the elected Vice-Chair for Regional Asia Pacific Section, IATDMCT (International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology, 2023 – 2025). His expertise in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring coupled with the vision of our Director, Dr. George Chandy Matteethra, Dr. Jacob Jesurun & Dr. Grace Mary John, has resulted in the successful establishment of a state-of the-art Therapeutic Drug Monitoring facility at Believers Church Medical College Hospital, aimed at excellence in patient care through appropriate drug use in September 2024. The new ACL in BCMCH is designed to advance research and education in chemical analysis and drug monitoring and hosts the world class Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometers, provided by Waters, a leading company in analytical science instrumentation. The services offered at ACL – BCMCH include Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Model Informed Precision Dosing, Enzyme Phenotyping, Quantification of Steroids and Screening for inborn errors of metabolism. Dr. Sumith aims to equip students and professionals with hands-on experience in analytical practices and encourage collaboration among various scientific disciplines to tackle complex analytical challenges as well as invite academic institutions, industry partners, and government agencies to collaborate on research projects, internships, and training programs, therefore bridging the gap between academia and industry. He has 25+ publications to his credit and has presented numerous papers both in the national and international front. He has organized many CME’s and contributed as a resource person at several national and international conferences.
